World Scout Jamboree South Korea 2023

Transportation to and from various airports in Europe

From August 1 to 12, 2023, South Korea hosted the World Scout Jamboree for scouts from all over the world. For Scouting Netherlands, it was quite a challenge to get more than 1,500 young participants and staff members from various Scouting groups in the Netherlands to South Korea on time and safely. There were not enough flights from Schiphol Airport, so they had to switch to airports in Brussels, Frankfurt, and Paris. Fortunately, during the preparations, Scouting Nederland was tipped off about Munckhof by a volunteer from the World Scout Jamboree and a former employee of Munckhof itself. Scouting Netherlands compared the quotes from various transport companies and Munckhof actually came out as the best match.

Munckhof thinks along and surprises scouts with packed lunches

Hans Bartels, who discussed the trip in detail with Scouting Nederland on behalf of Munckhof beforehand, prepared the drivers well in advance. "All drivers were briefed about the target group. For the young people, it would be an exciting once-in-a-lifetime experience. For the drivers, it was a very welcome change from their work in the low season. I think Scouting Nederland really appreciated Munckhof's proactive approach. Thanks to good preparation, we were able to surprise some of the scouts on their long journey home with a Dutch lunch package, for example. Very simple, with cheese sandwiches and a snack, but a very welcome surprise after three weeks of Asian food. We look back on a successful collaboration and hope to be able to transport the Dutch scouts more often in the future."

Extremely satisfied with Munckhof's commitment, flexibility, and accessibility

When contacted after the trip, Rutger van Hooff of Scouting Nederland also spoke enthusiastically about the collaboration with Munckhof: "I am extremely satisfied with Munckhof's commitment, flexibility, and accessibility. Thanks to its pragmatic approach, Munckhof has surprised me positively time and time again. I received answers to our questions very quickly, and if something was unclear, all I had to do was call and I got my answer right away. As far as the trip is concerned, everything went well, except for some traffic jams in Germany. I understand that Munckhof can facilitate more things, so I would definitely recommend Munckhof as a travel partner for Scouting Nederland in the future."

A great experience thanks to good preparation

Van Hooff also looks back on the entire adventure in South Korea with nothing but positive feelings. "Everyone has read in the media that we had to deal with extreme heat, an approaching typhoon, and many trips around the country, but thanks to good preparation and the high resilience of our scouts, I can say that it was a successful adventure. Despite the circumstances, everyone thought it was a great experience. The young people were even sorry that at a certain point we had to leave the jamboree site with participants from all different countries and cultures. After that, we were housed in a separate location with (almost) only Dutch people, so the global experience was over. I think it's amazing that all the scouts made it a great experience despite the many unexpected events. Scouts think in a solution-oriented way and are extremely resilient, both as a group and as individuals. They certainly proved that here.

About the World Scout Jamboree

The World Scout Jamboree is the world's largest youth camp, held every four years. In 2023, it will take place in South Korea. Tens of thousands of young scouts and their leaders from around 170 countries around the world will come together during this multi-day event to exchange experiences, make friends, and take part in cultural, adventurous, and outdoor activities. Each scout only gets one chance in their lifetime to participate in the World Scout Jamboree as a youth participant, because participants are only admitted if they are between 14 and 17 years old. Older participants can only attend as supervisors or volunteers for the organization.
